Almost every regret we hear about a new kitchen is electrical, and almost all of it was decided weeks before anyone picked up a tool. Getting the first fix right is what makes the finished room work.
Start with how the room is used
Before circuits, we talk through how you cook. Where does the kettle live? Is there a coffee machine that stays out? Do you want a socket on the island, and will anyone sit at it to work?
That conversation decides socket positions far better than a symmetrical layout does.
Appliance supplies and isolation
Every fixed appliance needs a supply and a way to isolate it that remains reachable once the units are in. Getting isolation positions right is what turns a future dishwasher replacement into a ten-minute job instead of pulling the run apart.

Lighting in layers
A kitchen wants at least three layers: task light on the worktops, general light for the room, and something softer for the evening. Downlights set out around the worktops and hob — rather than in an even grid — stop you working in your own shadow.

When to bring the electrician in
As early as you have a plan drawing. First fix has to happen before plastering, and appliance choices drive the circuits, so the earlier those are settled the fewer compromises are needed.

It depends on the appliances, but a typical kitchen has a dedicated cooker circuit, one or more ring or radial circuits for sockets, and a separate lighting circuit. Larger kitchens with multiple ovens often need more.
